a conscious choice to stay in bed all day, luxuriate in time spent by design— five piles of books, all just a reach away— some CD-driven oceanic mind-waves subliminally fed to catnaps chasing long dreams between heart attack-enriched ice cream bowls half full of Breyer's Coffee. It's pleasing to make this choice, affording nothing to myself but myself for one whole day.

Hi, mags----this is nice, a peace-filled piece, quietly presented, describing a day dedicated to introspection and restoration of body, mind, and soul...
I wondered about two things:
the use of the word affording----looked it up, but can't tell from the definitions if it's okay to use it that way or not----it doesn't seem right, somehow...
the other one is that long ice cream line, L6----why did you run that one line way out beyond all the others?----I'm sure you have a sound, Maggie reason----I just can't figure out what it is...

Thanks, Leo. Now if I had some of that wonderful desert wine you brought to Memphis, it might have two days abed! ~ Affording is used in this sense: To make available and the line in question has 11 beats ending on an unstressed syllable.
