this macabre dance

its feel of late
time and death
grate of breath
sent as chance
divining to the end

thus it must appear
from time to time
as some would look
upon it helplessly
and whine

understanding nothing
of fate from here
to anywhere
except they know
eventually
they too will let go

until then
they sit indifferent
and wait
staring past fouled air
