aw, and I liked the suggestion of dominion... although I think it gives it away ...
for the ending, I think you could lose the "that" and have it read just as or a bit more smoothly.

Ever the democrat (small d), Dominion (capital D) it is. Nice play on words, David -almost a poem in its own right. I was thinking also of Ceding , but that's maybe a homonym too far.
