Today Jacque and I (Jacque with a bit of hesitation since she had planned to keep the home fires burning, taking care of the mundane tasks which keep her centered after a hectic week at work,) drove to Waterloo Village in Stanhope, N. J. and, under the shelter of the main tent, were privileged to listen to 4 Poets Laureate as the rain made for a rhythmic accompaniment.
From Maxine Kumin, through Ted Kooser, Charles Simic, and ending with the inimitable Billy Collins..........we thoroughly enjoyed all the readings, captured in the moment of poetry.
Jacque bought two of Kumin's books, 3 of Collins', and 6 of Kooser's. We had Billy autograph his newest, Ballistic to the both of us, and Ted autographed Delights and Shadows for Jacque's cousin Ed, who shares Ted's birthday. He signed it under the poem, "Mother" written for his mom who passed a while back, (Ed had recently lost his.)
So sorry that Ron and Maggie, (who had intended to come,) as well as all of you in our poetic family could not make the Festival. Hope to see you there in 2010.
Jon

Billy Collins was here a couple of weeks ago and I also had him sign his new book. If I only had the time for pleasure reading. The festival sounds wonderful. I don't mind the rain.
