Wingless Angels Near Sunset
I used to say, while driving Hollywood, The 101 has every demographic: The beauties—more concerned with looking good Than worrying about the backed-up traffic; The surfers—still so mellow when they drove; The rappers and the rockers—they would blast Woofers and tweeters as they honked and wove Like demons with a soundtrack when they passed. The nouveau riche—displayed in garish toys Amid the older models past their primes (Those ancient cars that belched and bellowed noise Like dinosaurs from prehistoric times). The limousines would seem to stretch for years; The pimped-up rides had chromed-out, spinning spokes, And rear-view mirrors decked with chandeliers. The stoners rode in groups while sharing tokes. I’d sit in gridlock, static, looking round, Peering at others through surreal exhaust, Thinking, I wonder where you all are bound, And why? Am I the only one who’s lost?

Bravo David (said with a Spanish accent) I laughed my way all the way through. I may say some of the lines differently but I'm sure you are working in perfect meter, so I my little left coast hands! Nice poem and interesting how other see our Cali culture.

Thank you, Leo. I actually thought of you whilst posting this. I really do love L.A., but I always felt like a fish out of water...which I guess I was.
Happy Holidays to you...and thanks. I hope to be around more in 2010, now that The Vampire Sonnets is finished and about to be distributed. Hoping to make it out left soon. I'll let you know if I do.

I enjoyed this. I've always felt (suspected) LA is a bit like Sodom and Gomorrah (see below) and your words sharpen this for me. "And so you have this and now what?" Also, is Los Angeles; an appropriate name?
ISA 3:9 The show of their countenance does witness against them; and they declare their sin as SODOM, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.

I think your perspective is a true slice of Americana as the west coasters, are not your average bowl of noodle soup. I also like your twist of history he-he lines 11 & 12, and your title is perfect. Nothing to added to suggest other than I enjoyed your trip on The 101.
peace, anthony

LOL
Having lived a year in LA (Worked as a Nanny in Pacific Palisades when still a teen)...I found this not only acurate but also highly entertaining.
hilarious.
This made me LOL--
The nouveau riche—displayed in garish toys Amid the older models past their primes (Those ancient cars that belched and bellowed noise Like dinosaurs from prehistoric times).
Well, almost every line made me chuckle.
Briliant rhymes too. Flawless flow.
No nits.
Warm hugs, rama devi
