I received an email last night and again an email this morning from Maggie that long time friend and member of this group, Jarlsbane, (Mike) passed away. He was a true friend. Life kept Mike on the move and though we visited from time to time over the past year goings on in Mike's life kept him from the things he loved to do. I had a chance to meet his family. I know they will miss him. If anyone hears anything about circumstances or arrangements it would be nice to pass around to all that knew him.

Jim, it's great to see your name pop up here again.
Mike suffered a massive heart attack while doing yard work at his mother's house with his son. They'd stopped to take a break when it occurred.
Condolences from the EP family to the Cotners.

Oh my gosh, I just talked with him the other night. I'm somewhat shocked at the moment. Thank you for letting us know of this sad news, David. My heart goes out to his entire family.

Donna just sent me a message. It seems Mike was at his mothers helping his son mow the lawn. They were taking a break when Mike felt pain and fell from a massive heart attack. Donna says that he died almost immediately. His wife Nancy and three children ( I believe three) will need our prayers. As soon as Donna gets me an address I will post it here so his EP friends can send cards to the family. They will appreciate it I'm very sure.

Thank you Jim and David for informing us of the shocking news. Michael always liked that brown suede jacket I wore to dinner in Memphis. I regret never having sent it to him. Peace be with you Michael......And all our love.

Jarlsbane was such a dear and genuine guy. I so enjoyed the time we had together in Memphis, and the many times we all had with him here on EP. Bless your sweet spirit, Michael, and condolances to family and friends. Tina

You know, our weeked in Memphis (how many years ago?) didn't result in big book sales or a contract with a publishing company, but it did give us a chance to meet each other in person, and now, as time moves along and brings events such as this with which we have to deal, we have memories of each other that put flesh on what were only pen names. I remember the first time I met Jarls in the book tent in Memphis. We hit it off right from the get-go. He was another dog lover and always got choked up reading my dog poems. He was a gentle person who, I'll bet, was a terrific father and his kids are going to have major holes in their lives for a long time. As I have faded out of the EP poetry circle, I still stop in occasionally to see who is posting, and, as I read the old familiar names, faces from Memphis come back to me. Maybr we should do another Memphis in memory of Jarls.
