An Angel Sleeps
She dreams in silent, unencumbered peace, her slumber so serene it heartens me to touch her sculpted face as she emits a smile, her body warmed by fleece, her spirit wrapped in sleep (and all the secrets dreamers keep).
I lie, awakened by no ache, no sound, no troubles galloping through mind or heart. Her sleep is beauty, fragile art, a pillowed haven for an angel, downed to die for just a night, to rise tomorrow, bathed in light.

When I read this David, I was reminded of one of my sonnets, to which, by the way, you added some assistance. I'll post it in the study hall........Very nice.

That's beautiful, D. The romanticist in me loves this softer voice of yours.

in the hours of our day we must oft look away from cruel selfish spells cast up from elves' hells
but during the night shines a different light
these are the times we can see through the eyes of Divine

Thank you all. I feared it was a tad bit of poetwee, but it was for my girlfriend, so I have to lay it on a little thicker since she's just now getting acclimated to our world.

Lucky Girlfriend!
Sweet, serene and special. THe meldoies and cadences are delicious in this...enhanced by your skillful application of alliteration and assonance. Excellent use of parenthetical comment in first stanza. Love the closing.
Fine work.

Nothing wrong with a good bit of old-fashioned romance. Nicely carried off. And of course in these circumstances you can never lay it on too thick.
