the reflective surface
of your cell phone. your pots.
doesn't matter.
all you need is an eye.
picture yourself naked
if it helps.
but own it.
every delectable detestable
morsel of
youness. of youlessness.
hold yourself
against
yourself and say
the words that open
and close every door
"you are not enough
but you are all
i have". mean it.
as you have never meant
to hurt the ones
you love. to leave
the ones you needed
more than
they could fathom. say it
for holding out.
for giving too much
too soon. for not forgiving.
for the ones
who made you feel
a little less
like the person
you knew you
are. for letting yourself
believe yourself
when you were better
than the
average lover. listener.
tell yourself the one truth
that ransoms
all the lies.
and then you can begin
to despise
what matters
and that is the secret
of change.
